JSS/KidWind/TEDTalk at University of Akron

May 17th, 2017

Thanks to all the participating schools for this year’s Future Earth Event at InfoCision stadium at the University of Akron!  The middle school students were given tours of Akron’s engineering department and then participated in one of three events:  The Junior Solar Sprint, the KidWind Challenge, or the TEDTalks.  There were 7 districts this year:  Westlake, Boardman, Eastlake, Brecksville, Perry, Tallmadge, and Hawken.  Approximately 200 students and 25 parent/teachers as well as UA engineering staff and students were on hand for this fourth annual Northeast Ohio energy awareness/STEM event.

Top awards went to Westlake for the fastest JSS car, to Hawken for the best geared wind turbine and to Westlake for the best non-geared wind turbine.

LBMS also won the spirit award.

Thanks to UA for really putting together a great event.
