Passive solar design?
LARGE South facing windows with cement floor
Rooms on South side should be living spaces
Longest side East to West
House size
400 to 1000 square feet
Unheated space doesn’t count – This includes porches and garages
Title
Using the ‘comment’ tool, insert a large/readable title at the top or bottom of the floorplan which includes your name, the calculated square footage of the your house, the date, and your class designator.
Compass
On the Tools under the Symbols icon
Room organization
Bathrooms should be as easily accessible to bedroom as from living room or kitchen
All rooms with water should be placed adjacent to each other
Rooms should generally follow passive solar techniques from Design Tip page
Closets
Each bedroom needs a closet
Living room or entrance needs a closet
Kitchen/Dining
Kitchen counters, refrigerator, and stove/oven
Kitchen table or ‘island’ to eat meals at
Bedroom(s)
At least one window mandatory
Bed
Closet
Bathroom
Toilet, sink, and bath and/or shower
Storage for towels, cleaning, etc.
Utility room (also known as Mechanical Room)
Central Heating system, hot water tank, and washer and dryer (unless you’ve put the latter in a bathroom)
Utility sink (optional)
Closet for coats/boots (optional)
W/D
Washer and dryer can be in utility room or by itself
Doors
Two entrance doors into house; should not be close together (optional)
Title
Using the ‘Labeling’ tool, insert a large/readable title at the top or bottom of the floor plan which includes
your name,
the calculated square footage of the your house,
the date, and
your class designator.
Overall Dimensions
Final image must have over home dimensions (length and width)
Dimension lines must be resized to be able to be seen.
Room names
Room names must be labeled along with the general room dimensions
(width by length e.g. 12 x 14)
Don’t put in 1000 sq ft pools or helicopter pads. Really! Use the above checklist to mark off what is needed. Try not to put in anything else. Keep it simple. Points will be deducted for going TOO far.
